Barley Soup

1 pound stew beef -- cut in 1/2" cubes
1 medium onion -- chopped
2 celery stalks -- chopped
2 carrots -- diced
3/4 cup barley
1 bay leaf
1 teaspoon salt
Freshly-ground black pepper -- to taste
6 cup beef stock


Cook on LOW in slow cooker for 6 to 8 hours stirring occasionally.
