Ham and Lentil Soup

2 cups lentils
1/2 pound ham -- diced
1 onion -- chopped
1 bay leaf
2 celery ribs -- chopped
1 garlic clove -- minced
Salt -- to taste
Freshly-ground black pepper -- to taste


Combine all ingredients with 2 quarts water in the slow cooker. Cook on LOW, covered, 8 to 10 hours. Adjust seasonings and serve.
