French Onion Soup

1/4 c. butter or margarine
4 c. thinly sliced onion
4 cans condensed beef bouillon, undiluted
4-5 French bread slices, 1" thick
1/4 c. grated Parmesan cheese


Heat butter in skillet. Saute onion until golden. Combine onion and bouillon in saucepan. Boil. Reduce heat and simmer, covered, 30 minutes. Toast bread slices. Sprinkle 1 side of toast with cheese. Melt under broiler. To serve: Pour soup into bowls and float toast on soup with cheese side up.
