Sausage Chowder

1 lb. regular sausage
1 lb. hot sausage
1 lg. can whole tomatoes
1 qt. water
2 (15 oz.) cans kidney beans
1 lg. chopped onion
1 bay leaf
1 1/2 tsp. seasoning salt
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/4 tsp. thyme
1/8 tsp. pepper
1 c. or more potatoes
1/2 green pepper, chopped
Shredded cheese (opt.)


Cook sausage (crumble, pour off grease and run under hot water letting drain through colander). Put all ingredients, except potatoes, and green pepper in large stew pot. Break up tomatoes into small pieces. Cook 1 hour. Add potatoes and green pepper and cook until potatoes are done, about 1 hour more. Serve with shredded cheese on top.
